Funniest/Worse trip to Macdo's!

After driving my little sis to meet her dad, I started to moan to mum about getting a Macdo's..!
I knew exactly where the service station was and knew how much time I had to moan about it...this makes me sound awful!!! Also, as I am a student I can get a free cheeseburger or McFlurry with every meal I buy so I knew that that would tempt mum more and it worked...she didn't say she would take me but she started to slow down near the turning!
It was then really busy and she was tempted to turn back onto the main road but I convinced her not to.

Now... we finally got through the drive-thru and instead of a real person it was one of the talky box things...Mum asked me to lean over her to order as she wasn't really sure of what I wanted but the dude couldn't hear me so she had to do it. So mum ordered what I wanted - A sweet Chilli Chicken Deli meal with a strawberry milkshake...then they said they didn't have any milkshake so I ordered a Fanta instead... She then ordered the "Free NUS cheeseburger" (NUS is the card I can use as a student to get discounts in some places) So the dude goes "3 cheeseburgers?" and mum goes "No the FREE cheeseburger" but again he says 3 so mum gets a bit irratated and says "NO the F-R-E-E cheeseburger!" (In England, sadly we get people who can't speak properly and say F instead of TH....my mum is not one of those people!)
So he tells me the price which is a bit above usual but we had to drive to the next bit so I paid. We then got to the next window and the girl gives us a massive bag...mum drives forward as it's busy and I open the bag and see...3 FREAKIN CHEESEBURGERS!!!! So he must have given me one for free and made me pay for two...I was angry! By this time I'd also opened the glove box and rested my drink in the shallow cup-holder... I need to add here that we were in my mum's partner's car... So then I'm angry about the burgers and then as mum pulls out of the McDo's...THE DRINK SPILLS EVERYWHERE!!!!! I was so annoyed but it was hilarious at the same time...Not only did they get my order wrong - I spilled ALL of my Fanta over the car and my feet (I was only wearing flip-flops..!) So it was very amusing and we haven't told Mum's partner as he will freak as his is ocd about cleaning!

And tomorrow is the Royal Wedding!
I wasn't bothered by it until this past week where me and mum have been watching loads of crap documentaries about Wills and Kate! We've even put flags up outside the house!
And we will be up at 8 to watch it from the beginning! So sad..but it will be a massive part of our history if they do get to become King and Queen - Grandpa W reckons they'll be divorced by next year!
There is also an interesting Drinking Game on Facebook which would be a laugh to do with mum! So I probably won't be able to blog tomorrow ;) ( I am of age by two years in england!)
Have a good day tomorrow whatever you do! =D

A little trip to the hospital..!

Yesterday was my little sister's first day back at school from the Easter Holidays. She was very excited as she loves her school and loves hanging out with her friends.
While she was at school me and mum hung out - I went on a power plate machine (An all over body vibration thing that says a ten minute go on it equals an hour workout!) Then we had lunch and chilled.
When we went to get the sis from school she seemed fine until we were out of earshot from her friends where she started to cry and told us she'd fallen over in the morning... She then couldn't walk so we had to carry her from the car to the house then mum took off her shoes and socks and her ankle was so swollen and bruised it was gross!
So then we took her to A&E where she was very excited to have an X-Ray especially as she got to keep the picture, luckily there were no breaks - she'd just torn one of her ligaments. It's not as swollen today as it was but she isn't at school as mum was worried that if a bigger kid stood on her she'd be to little and scared to get them away! So today we've been playing the Wii (siting on the sofa!) and been snuggled up under the quilt watching telly...Hannah Montana at the moment! (Which sadly I think I'm enjoying it!)
She does keep trying to walk on it though which isn't good so I keep having to carry her everywhere!
I also got a new workout DVD yesterday..I've been losing weight since January and it's going well but since I've been at mum's I haven't been working out as much! The new DVD was rubbish tho! It's a new Ministry of Sound one but it's not as good as the Pump it Up one I've been doing for a couple of months but hopefully I'll get used to it because I'm getting bored of the Pump it up one! But I think mum is giving me some boxing ones which will be coool!

But I have to go because my little sis is being very demanding! And we also have more easter eggs to eat ;)

Today and Yesterday...

So yesterday we had went to watch the step-bro's little St George's day parade - he got to hold a flag which made him happy (He's only8!) Then we got back and had a BBQ where I proceeded to eat until I felt ill...then we all had an easter egg so I then felt even more ill...then me and the little sis started to watch Zombieland with popcorn...so I ate a lot yesterday!
We didn't watch all of Zombieland as she's only 5 and got scared...wooops! I kept telling her that it's only the same as Shaun of the Dead which she loves but she said that those Zombies don't have as much blood on their faces! So then I put Paul on instead which she loved but she then fell asleep so there hasn't been a successful film watched recently!

Today has consisted of the beach where I went in up to my stomach although it was freezing! And there were massive waves that you couldn't get away from but it was fun, I then sunbathed to get dry and we then went to get a Mr B's ice cream from Hayle. I'd not had one before and it was delicious - I had a double scoop one - one side Strawberry Pavlova and the other Raspberries and Cream..it was so good that me and mum are going to have one tomorrow either before or after we have a go on the "Flabelos" power plate exercise machine then eat ice cream, sounds good to me! :D
So now that we're back from the beach we're watching the Disney channel which I don't normally like but right now it's Phineas and Ferb which I do love..! Although I don't like Perry the Platypus!

Then in ten minutes it's the Dog Whisperer which luckily my sis enjoys if not she freaks if you change her channels to something she doesn't like! Haha the bully just said "I'm not crying..I'm sweating outta my eyes!"
And we're having another BBQ this eve which is good because I'm very hungry! Then I'll probably finish off the popcorn!

My sis has her first day back at school tomorrow but luckily she is excited as she really enjoys school and loves hanging with her friends. I am going with mum to take her which is cool apart from it means that I'll have to wake up early but it's cool cus my sis loves introducing me to her friends!
I have also caught quite a nice tan since being in Cornwall which is a nice bonus and I'm not really looking forward to going back to uni...I keep prolonging my holiday! :D

Family Films!

So as I said in my last blog - I am with my family in Cornwall at the moment. As it was Good Friday yesterday we decided to take a break from playing Just Dance 2 on the Wii and had a look at what films were on!
First we watched Enchanted which I have always loved - I love the whole concept of the film and how it takes the mick out of Princess films whilst still being a Disney Princess film! Watching it was me who is 20, Lauren who is 12, Joel who is 8 and Estie who is 4 and we all enjoyed it and were singing along - a proper family film!
After that was finished, we saw that grease was on on Film4 and we all agreed on it!
My mum loves the film and we could hear her singing along in the kitchen! And we made her come in to sing along to her favourite song..."Stranded at the Drive-In" and then we all started to dance for the last two songs!

Although I did realise how rude Grease is as well and I'm sure they cut some of the film but obviously they couldn't edit the songs but some of those are very rude as well!!

The other night me and Lauren watched Get Him To The Greek and tonight we're going to watch Zombieland which I love!

This is only a short blog today because I'm watching The Dog Whisperer and it's distracting me!!!

Thursday 21 April 2011

Been busy!

So I haven't been blogging much because I'm staying in Cornwall with my mum and sister!
Day 1 of the beach...after this I wore bikini bottoms!
It's been great as the weather is lovely and we've been going to the beach everyday which is sweeeeeet...it's been so hot that me and my little sister have been paddling in the beach!
Although people from hottter countries would probably think it's cold here- it's boiling for us!! I am starting to get a tan =D

We went to the little town of St Ives last night for a meal which was cool - we went to a little restaurant called Caffe Pasta and I had Italian Meatballs and then a lemon tart for dessert! It was really nice and we'd definitely go there again!
The town itself is very busy with lots of tourists but it's such a lovely place and my sis paddled in the sea there but then the tide started to come in really quickly so we left!

I haven't really had time to watch any films as my sister is 4 so all that is on the telly is Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry! I haven't even read much of my book as we're busy all day and then chill in the night but it's cool and we're trying to arrange a holiday to one of the Isles of Scilly for the summer as mum used to go there when she was young.

I'm sorry if this blog is boring as I haven't watched much and this is different to what it's usually like but I thought I'd let you know why!
Anyway I'm going to stop now as we're going to the beach again!

Get Him To The Greek!

Get Him To The Greek is one of my new favourite films by far, I just watched it for maybe the 5th time in 2 months last night!
If I'm tired or in the mood for a laugh I watch it! I love the combination of Jonah Hill (plays Aaron Green) and Russel Brand (playing Aldous Snow)! Basically Jonah Hill works for P. Diddy at a record label and it's his job to get Russel Brand who is a failed-drug addict-Rock Star who needs to get his gig at the Greek Theatre. The film follows there journey from London to New York to Las Vegas until they get to LA. It's filled with sex, drugs and Rock'n'Roll and a lot of comedy!

I never liked Russel Brand before but this film has slowly started to change my mind about him, I think it's because his character is how I imagine Brand being when he was on drugs and before being with Katy Perry! Also Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs is in it and he's extremely funny. There are also lots of cameos from other famous people such as Lars Ulrich from Metallica, Christina Aguilera and others! Aldous' girlfriend Jackie Q is also hilarious her singing career consists of singing very rude songs in scantily clad outfits! Although Aldous' songs are very similar and they do actually sing the songs themselves which is cool. No matter how many times I watch it I laugh at every joke even though I know exactly what's going to happen! There are also a lot of funny quotes in the film and the songs are catchy although don't worry, it isn't a musical - they are just the band's songs that are featured all throughout the film.
It is definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it but be ready to laugh... A LOT! If you don't think that any part is funny then I don't know what is funny!

I'm going to catch up with everyone else and watch Kick-Ass soon :)

Marilyn Monroe

Like many others, I am a fan of Marilyn Monroe..I own many things which have her face on it such as puzzles, books, CDs and I have a lot of her DVDS.
I think it all started when I saw Gentlemen Prefer Blondes many years ago...I love it! I love the songs and the characters - I think the dynamic between Monroe and Jane Russel is great! I was just trying to think about which song is my favourite but I can't  actually decide!
My gran then bought me a 3 disc set which included GPB, How to Marry a Millionaire and The Seven Year Itch. I love HTMAM again for its characters and it has a great ending... it makes me laugh everytime! Also, as I wear glasses - I love Monroe's character with her embarrassment to wear her glasses! Seven Year Itch didn't capture me as much as the others but I did still enjoy it.
My gran then bought me Some Like It Hot which is her favourite Monroe film which I really enjoyed because the story is amazing and Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon were so good! But I still always preferred GPB  - maybe because it's the first one I saw so it'll always be my favourite?
The other day I bought 7 Monroe films which included Niagara which I love as it's completely different to what I was used to seeing Monroe do which also goes for Don't Bother To Knock which I really enjoyed!
When I read the synopsis I was a bit apprehensive about it as it said about Monroe being a little bit crazy - not her usual ditzy, blonde and singing self!
I really enjoyed it and thought that she did an amazing performance as the crazed, self harming babysitter! The story itself was really good as her craziness was completely believable as her character lost her partner in the war and she just wanted to have him back and then decides to imagine Jed as her lost Phillip!
If you haven't seen it I really really recommend it as Monroe is amazing and it's just really good!

I need to crack on with watching my other films and I think I will watch River of No Return next as I'm intrigued to see what a Monroe western will be like!
P.s I always call Marilyn Monroe "Mazza" when I talk about her which she probably wouldn't like so I made sure I didn't do it here!

The Sims 3

I often waste so much time playing The Sims 3...
Why, I have no idea! It's ridiculous because I cheat so that they don't have to eat, go to the toilet - basically none of their 'needs' go down and I also cheat so that they have millions of Simoleons (money) and I sometimes cheat if they need lots of friends to achieve things...So why do I play it!?

I often make the sims as me or famous people and I probably spend too much time making them look how I want them to look... I then build them a nice house with everything in it and then realise that because I cheat, I've wasted time and money as they won't use half of the things in the house..!
Because they don't need to sleep or anything, if I need them to gain certain skills they can just do that one thing non-stop until they've completed it and recently I've been picking easy lifetime goals...
But I still waste stupid amounts of time on it... WHY?!?!
Sometimes I'll play it for about fourteen hours if I have nothing else to do when really I could be researching stuff for essays or my exam... Although I am good when I have an essay to do I will ban myself from playing it!
Whilst I'm playing it I enjoy it but then afterwards I think why do I enjoy it? I think I'd probably get more from it if I didn't cheat but then I get bored...
And even though I don't think that it's worth it I will most probably buy the new expansion pack "Generations" when it comes out..I'm so sad...!

I bought Sims Medieval the other day and have played it once or twice...I don't like that it's so different from the usual Sims but if I became addicted to that it would be better as at least you have to do quests and stuff...but I still would rather play Sims3! I need to give Sims Medieval another chance as I'm sure that when I get used to it I'd like it..!

This was a bit of a pointless blog as I still didn't figure out why I love the game so much..
Feel free to comment on any of my blogs if you want!

Busy weekend!

So it turns out that I didn't have time to blog over the weekend...!

After I met my boyfriend at his work we left early and hung out in his field with our 1 year old Golden Retriever Phoebe...she has now discovered her love for swimming! She loves it when you throw a stick into the pond as she dives right in to get it :)

We didn't do much that evening - I cooked and we stayed up talking for ages.
On Saturday I went to see my family which was nice and then we went to our friend Sam Dowden's gig in a sports hall in a tiny village...it was to raise money for Macmillan nurses which was great but there was also a ten piece Jazz band which my boyfriend didn't enjoy! I liked them, partly because they were good and partly because I like to make the most out of any situation and thought that I'd enjoy the evening more if I enjoyed the music!
Then Sam played which was good (as always) and the organiser asked us to stay because she wanted him to play again... to cut a long story short we stayed for another hour (My boyfriend hating it more and more by the minute because it was freezing) and then after the Jazz band finished everyone started to leave so Sam didn't even have to play again! So we left..!

On Sunday we caught up with Hollyoaks and then made the dog jump in the pond...after doing that for a while we decided to take her to a deeper river so we drover around for a while trying to find the perfect spot. It was such a lovely, hot day and she really enjoyed swimming around but she got tired quite quickly!
Over the weekend I didn't watch any films (Which is a first!) And I'm sure you wouldn't be interested in reading about the glorious programme that is Hollyoaks (*Sarcasm*) so I have just finished work at the racecourse and am going to go to bed and listen to Kevin Smith's PlusOne podcast and play Sims 3!

Friday 8 April 2011

Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles!

The other night I finished my book The Vampire Lestat...it was such an exciting and cliffhanger ending that I ordered Queen Of The Damned from play.com straight away!

I read Interview With A Vampire when I was younger and loved it, I also loved the film. I bought Vampire Lestat during the Christmas holiday but only finished it the other night because we've had assignments to do and I've been playing The Sims 3..!

But it was an amazing book, that when I got the time to read it, I didn't want to put it down.
I loved how realistic it seemed (This book is Lestat's reply to Louis releasing Interview..!) I loved how it when all the way through his life and even when we learn more about other vampires such as Armand or Marius it was still really interesting. Also, all of the different settings were really good as we start off with Lestat in France then travel with him through to places like Italy, Egypt, Greece and end up in New Orleans!

Phoebe as a puppy!
So today I am going home to Devon for the weekend which involves 1 bus then train then 2 buses! That means a lot of book reading time! My friends say that Queen Of The Damned is their favourite of the chronicles so I can't wait to start it. I have seen the film but obviously the books are always better! This is another short blog as I need to get ready to go!! I should have time to blog over the weekend and they may involve my Golden Retriever as it's her I will be hanging out with the most! :)

Jersey Girl & Kevin Smith!

It's no secret amongst my friends that I am a massive Kevin Smith fan...not that I'm implying it should be a secret! I regularly convert friends into fans using Clerks and Clerks 2!

I also love his podcast PlusOne which he does weekly with his wife Jen Schwalbach which I find highly entertaining! It's also interesting to get a view of his life from the women who is there with him the whole time!

So out of the 9 feature length films that he has released - I have finally seen all of them!
I just finished watching Jersey Girl..I always put it off because I knew it was different to his other films such as Clerks 2 and Dogma!

Although I was right about that, the story wasn't what I was expecting at all!
I thought that it would be a soppy love story focused on Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler but I was wrong!!
The biggest focus was on the relationship between the character of Ollie (Affleck) and his daughter Gurtie (Raquel Castro). It is very moving and I was pleasantly surprised that, although I love him, that Smith could write a serious and sentimental story!

Now as with most films, I watch them with Stacey...or as I named her a minute ago "Stone-Hearted Stacey" as I have never seen her cry..!
BUT... Duh Duh Duuuuuhhhh...
SHE CRIED!!!!!!!!!!! It was such a sad scene with Ollie and Gurtie when she is new born...bit of context here now - Gurtie's mum Gurtie died during childbirth so Ollie kind of resents the baby and isn't a good dad and just passes the baby off to his dad (George Carlin).
Then in this scene...he decides to bond with the baby and it's sooo sad!!!! Like I said - I've not seen Stacey cry before so she was half laughing because she was embarrassed...!

But it was an amazing film, and as I said before I was surprised as although some parts were funny, some were very sad and it was so good!

I also cannot wait for Red State to come out and I'm gutted that Kevin Smith can't tour it in the UK but I will be pre-booking my cinema tickets to see if he can do Horror although I am not doubting him!!
I have also based two assignments on Mr Smith- one on Chasing Amy which was cool then one on Clerks which was better!
Maybe throughout my degree I may be able to write something on everyone of his films?!
Or maybe my dissertation..?!

But anyways...if you haven't seen it already..WATCH JERSEY GIRL! :)

Limitless...

So I just got back from the cinema...I saw Limitless...
What an amazing film!

The story itself is so good and interesting and I want one of those pills...I don't take drugs I'd just love to see what the other 80% of my brain could do!!

Bradley Cooper is very good looking but as I've said in a previous blog, I don't want them to be me talking about that!

I don't want to say too much about the story because I don't want to ruin it for anyone! Also there was really great and clever use of camera and editing throughout!

The only thing that annoyed me was Robert DeNiro's part in the film was made out to be alot bigger during advertising than he was actually in the film..!
I don't mind this but I think that they could have put Eddie's girlfriend on it because her part was just as important or maybe even slightly more.. Although I did really like DeNiro's character.

Another thing is that there are too many smaller characters that we don't see for a while so when they reappear you have kind of forgotten who they are...such as the detective and his lawyer...but apart from that it's a really good film! :)

So my favourite films...

This is really hard and I'm sure many of you can't say that you have one favourite film that is better than any other... So I've decided to do it in genre categories to maybe make it easier! Although I'm probably not going to be able to choose just one for each genre!

ACTION!
From my blog last night it's easy to say the Die Hard & Lethal Weapon quadrilogies! (My Gran says that isn't a word but it's on my die hard boxset box!)

ADVENTURE!
The Goonies definitely!

COMEDY!
Shaun Of The Dead, Zoolander, Clerks 2, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, The Hangover..there's still more but I'll stop here!

CRIME & GANGSTER
Snatch, Goodfellas, Ronin, Leon...

DRAMA
I can't think of many but definitely Chasing Amy

EPICS/HISTORICAL
Robin Hood: Prince of Theives

HORROR
What Lies Beneath, Ringu, The Evil Dead series!

MUSICALS
West Side Story & Cats

SCIENCE FICTION
The Alien films, Star Wars (Originals), Serenity

WAR
Full Metal Jacket

WESTERNS
Two Mules For Sister Sarah!

FANTASY
Hook, Night Watch & Day Watch, The Harry Potter films!

VAMPIRE
Underworld 1& 2, Lost Boys

So when people ask me my favourite film, I kind of list a lot of those..!

Tuesday 5 April 2011

Lethal Weapon or Die Hard?!

So Stacey was educated again this evening - we've just finished watching Lethal Weapon.
I only own the 1st one on DVD so I've just ordered the rest from play!

Luckily she enjoyed it!
I love it... I just never know whether I prefer Lethal Weapon or Die Hard...not that I have to chose but if I had to, I don't think that I could!

I love the relationship between Riggs and Murtaugh, it's not just "Good Cop/Bad Cop" It's more like "Loving Family Man/Crazy Suicidal Killer"!
I know that John McClane is a family man and willing to do what he needs to get the job done and I suppose the fact that he doesn't need a partner makes him a bit better but I don't know.. Plus Alan Rickman is the BEST badguy in Die Hard! And Joe Pesci is an amazing little sidekick person added to the Lethal Weapons as well!

And obviously both Mel and Bruce are very good looking men...but I don't want this blog to go thaaat way..!

I think in terms of sequels Lethal Weapon bests Die Hard as, although I do love Die Hard 4.0 it wasn't as good as the original 3 whereas all of the Lethal Weapons stayed on the same level and didn't need to go over the top!

Like I said I can't choose, seeing as I just finished watching Lethal Weapon, that one is best at the moment, maybe tomorrow I'll watch Die Hard then hopefully my Lethals would have arrived and I could alternate between the two?! And maybe...just maybe....I might be able to decide?!

The Shawshank Redemption

So... Yesterday I finished watching Shawshank and I did really enjoy it. I like the story but Stacey and me were wondering why everyone was so shocked that I hadn't seen it as, although it's a great film...it's not like an amazing new thing for films or anything...like I said I think it's just because of the great story.

*SPOILER ALERT* (Even though I probably was the only person left to watch it!)

One of the reasons I hadn't made the effort to see it was because I'm sure everyone told me it was depressing..I don't like watching films if I know I'm going to cry unless it's worth it...! But then Stacey starts assuring me that it's got a happy ending and stuff.

I phoned my mum after I finished watching it and let her know and she said "Oh my god, that's the most depressing film ever, as soon as it finished I told myself I'd never watch it again...!" I said "Yeah mum everyone said it was depressing but I didn't think it was cus it had a happy ending..!" she said "Yes..but the old man kills himself and it's horrible!" And I said "Aaaahh yeaahh..that is horrible and sad but then it gets happy again!"

So apart from poor old Mr Brooks who was a lovely man taking his life...it was good!

What a happy lovely old man!
I am glad I've seen it as I won't shock anyone that I meet. As usually when I meet someone and say that I do Film Studies the first question is "OOOH what's your favourite film?!" to which I say "I have too many to choose from so I don't really have a favourite." They get so shocked and then tell me their favourite, probably 6 times out of 10 they say Shawshank and then become even more shocked...some even appalled when I say I haven't seen it, I normally get told something like:
"Oh my god...you do Film Studies but you haven't seen Shawshank!?"

No I can say yes I have seen it, it's good but not one of my favourite films..! I should probably blog about my favourite films but I think it would take a while trying to figure it out!

Forcing People To Watch Films You Like..

So since being at uni, I think that everyone has been shown films that they wouldn't normally watch.
I tend to force Stacey (My halls flatmate) to watch films she'd normally think are rubbish and then we talk about them..
Recently I've forced her to watch Sweetest Thing..I don't think she liked that one very much..! Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which to my surprise..she liked and was laughing throughout! Hook which I love and I think she liked... And last night I made her watch one of my favourite films from my childhood...Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (1991)!

Now I love that film so much...some of it because it's amazing...some of it because it reminds me of my childhood!
Even the opening credits scene with the epic music and tapestry makes me excited! I had to hold back from quoting the film and saying things like "Oh I love this bit!" or "OOohhh...this bit is scary!"...some of you might wonder what part of Robin Hood is scary but the scene with the Celts really scares me!
Another thing is that Stacey doesn't like Kevin Costner so that always put her off the film...but she loves Morgan Freeman so it balanced it out for her I think.

Now it's safe to say that she definitely wasn't as excited about it as I was but I do think she liked some of it.. She said she expected it to be more Hollywood style...I suppose when I first watched it I was too young to think of anything like that..I was 1 when it came out and can't remember how old I was when I actually watched it. I think that it uses the setting of the forest really well and how Little John's men are poor is obviously a big part of the film and is done well, I think this is possibly what she thought would have been more Hollywood and although they were amazing when they happened - there wasn't that many explosions and big fight scenes!

I'm not even going to bother with the Russel Crowe one because I have no reason to doubt Kevin Costner's Robin Hood and I don't think that anyone could do a better job..!
People get annoyed that he has an American accent...I put it down to when he was travelling during the Crusades for 6 years..he would of picked up all sorts of accents..probably not an American one but it doesn't matter! And I've also been told that Russel Crowe's attempt at a Northern accent is so terrible that he might as well have not even tried..?

Now last night it was Stacey's turn to "force me" to watch a film...I put it in the bunny ears as although I hadn't seen the film before (much to all of my fellow Film Studies students and teacher's dismay..) I have never been against watching it..I've just never had the opportunity to watch it...So last night, after Robin Hood, we put on The Shawshank Redemption.
We only got halfway through as we were very tired but I did enjoy what I saw of it and will definitely watch the rest this evening and I may even blog about it...

22 Bullets

This is my first blog!
I'm going to be talking about the things I like and things I do.. I hope it might interest someone and it will also be interesting for me as I have never done anything like this before, I've not even kept a diary!

On Friday I watched the film 22 Bullets (Original title - L'immortel) which is directed by Richard Berry and released in 2010. I got the film from LoveFilm. It stars one of my favourite actors - Jean Reno.
I started my love for Jean Reno when I watched Les Visiteurs whilst living in France when I was young.
I haven't seen I film with him which I haven't liked and 22 Bullets didn't disappoint.

The story itself is very interesting and Jean's character was interesting as it was the story of a retired member of a gang in Montpellier in France. His character Charly wasn't the typical "retired-mafia man- can't leave the game" as he had settled with a family and was completely content with not doing "jobs". He was only brought back into that part of his life when his old gang friends seek out to eliminate him as they think he will be a threat to their new drug empire. This surprises Charly as he has no interest in that life at all.

The story is very emotional and is very gripping as the revenge story is kept up throughout the film with Charly wanting revenge which causes the gang to want to kill him more and there is a Police Woman who is investigating the case but she is also emotionally involved as the gang leader also killed her husband.
Charly's family become a target to the gang as is in a lot of revenge films but in 22 Bullets it's done really well as the audience see how Charly is with his family and his emotions are clear throughout the whole film that he wants to be a family man and be in peace with them.
Charly's son Anatole played by Max Baissette de Malglaive is a character used to keep reminding the audience that Charly is happily retired. I can't seem to find the age of the boy but he must be around 6 or 7 and he is such an amazing actor, he makes you laugh and cry and I can imagine him becoming very popular in French cinema.

Although the film is 1 hour 52 minutes long, I was completely sucked in from the minute it started to the minute it ended. I have since lent it to some of my friends who enjoyed it at much as I did.
Jean Reno's forte is definitely in the mafia/assassin role such as in Leon, Ronin and this film.
I look forward to exploring more of Jean Reno's films and maybe there'll be a new blog about it!
