Red State, Straw Dogs and more!

So I haven't blogged for an embarrassingly long time! :/ The worst thing is, there isn't even a real reason for it - I think I just got out of the swing of things! But I'm back now and I've watched loads of films :)

We went to the cinema to see Red State on Monday! Know if you've read my previous blogs you may have picked up on the fact that I love Kevin Smith! I also love horrors so I was very excited when I heard ages ago that he was going to make a horror! I was also very intrigued with the subject of the film as I think that the Westboro Church are crazy! And I don't think that that should offend anyone as most people agree! I loved following Smith's journey with Red State with distributing it himself as I think it's great that he wants to help smaller filmmakers see how they can realise their dreams. Now to the film...I won't say too much about the plot as I don't want to ruin it but I loved it! Now most people aren't surprised that I loved it as I love Smith but I didn't have high expectations because, obviously - it's a completely different style to what he normally does but I did really enjoy it and thought he did it very well! My friend Stacey liked it but she thought that he could of done better! But each to their own! I loved all of the action and was shocked by a lot of the little twists throughout and also absolutely loved the comedic elements Smith put in - they just reminded us that it was his film :) I very much recommend it to anyone who enjoys a horror and a bit of gore! GO SEE IT!

We just finished watching the original Straw Dogs, it was cool because in the cinema on Monday we saw the trailer for the new re-make and I already had the original on my LoveFilm list and it arrived today! I loved it! I loved Dustin Hoffman and loved that it was filmed down the road from where my mum lives now! I also thought the story was very interesting although I don't want to read the book as books are always more brutal than the film for me as my head really takes everything and makes it loads worse! I do totally understand why the BBFC banned Straw Dogs in the UK as the rape scene is very weird... similar to Evil Dead if you've seen that! I will watch the new one as I'd like to see how they do it - from the trailer it seemed as if they kept it pretty close but we'll see!

We also watched The Next Three Days which was weird - we had to turn it off after an hour and a half because we were both falling asleep and then put it on today after a few days and watched the rest...The first part was so boring and strange but then the second half was good - basically they should of hired a better Editor! The only thing I definitely enjoyed was that Elizabeth Banks was playing a suspected murderer - I was so used to seeing her as Granny Panties in Zac and Miri or other funny roles but she did it so well!
I also want to see Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark although the trailer scared us enough! I hate things where a child is in danger!! So I'll wait for it to come to DVD so that I don't embarrass myself!

I've watched loads of films over the summer but this blog would take forever if I spoke about them all! So I'll just give a quick list of ones I enjoyed -

Bridesmaids
Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 2!

Oh...I have a Tumblr now...Follow me if you like but I'm still getting the hang of it so don't judge :P

A Few Quick Reviews - Scarface, Game Of Thrones, Descent, The Beach!

The Descent 2
The other night we watched the Descent 2 ...I hadn't seen the first one since it came out so I couldn't really remember who was who and who died but my boyfriend was helping me to remember! What we really like is how it starts from the end of the first one and is set two days after the women go down into the caves. This was cool because it was completely the same style and you could watch the first film then the second one after the other and it flowed really well and did have some reminders throughout for those, like me, who hadn't seen the first one for a while! Now I found it quite scary - or at least very jumpy! My boyfriend wasn't feeling it but still enjoyed the film - and it was very gorey still! So I did enjoy it but I think it would of been better if I'd watched the first one first as I did keep having to ask questions! So watch it but watch the first one again if you haven't seen it for a while as they are directly linked! :D

Scarface
Now we also watched Scarface recently and I very much enjoyed it!! Obviously it's an old film and I know that most people have already seen it but I hadn't and had only seen the "Say hello to my little friend!" short part! So I was anticipating that the whole time! The story itself was cool and interesting and I love a bit of violence in films, and I also love a bit of Al Pacino! I was shocked by how his character turned into a drug addict as he seemed quite anti all of that scene at the start but it was justified and it did work well to show how he was breaking. I'm not normally a fan of Michelle Pfieffer but her character was really interesting and added an interesting side to the gangster who says that to get to the top you need a good woman on your side which I liked! =D So overall I did really enjoy it and was a bit sad at the end!!

The Beach
My boyfriend requested that we get The Beach as he loves it so I did because I'm nice! When we got it I started to watch it then remembered how horrible it gets! The idea of The Beach itself it really cool but it all goes so horribly wrong! I don't like when they kill the man and I hate Tilda Swinton unless she's the Snow Queen!! So I did fall asleep... but I know that my boyfriend enjoyed it as much as he usually does which was cool but yeah I just don't like how weird and horrible it gets even though I know that Paradise doesn't exist anywhere so they had to do something but I just wasn't in the  mood for it the other night!!

Game of Thrones Book
So now I have started the book of Game of Thrones and I love it! I love how close to the book the tv series was - even as far as what the characters say! I really love it even though I obviously know what's going to happen but it's still really enjoyable because of the little bits they've left out of the series. One thing that is a bit weird is that in the book the characters are all a lot younger than the series - for example Daenerys (who marries Khal Drogo) is actually 13 in the book! And all of the Starks are a lot younger as well but in a way that adds a different dimension to it as it makes some elements of the story quite sad! When I read it I do picture the actors from the series - just with the children having little bodies and big adult heads - but that's probably just me!! But I do highly recommend the book to everyone as it is really good!

Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 2! SPOILERS!!

Hello!! I haven't blogged for absolutely ages!!!! This is bad..!
So I went to the cinema a while ago and saw Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 - I enjoyed it! I'd obviously read the book when it first came out so I knew what was going to happen and that I was going to cry!! I had goosebumps from the very very beginning - literally from when the  Warner Bros sign comes on the screen! They obviously had to miss out a lot of stuff from the book as if not the film would be in 10 parts! It was a bit annoying that Neville didn't get his proper hero moment and that they created a romance between him and Luna - it was silly as it's not in the books and they hadn't even hinted it at it before in the films so I thought it was really unnecessary! Snape didn't have a massive part compared to what he does in the book either which was a shame because his whole story-line is based on whether he is good or bad and the memory could of been more clear that he was good all along! There's no point talking about all of the things they missed as, like I said before - they'd have to make ten films to fit it all in! I was glad though that they played down Fred's death as I would of been really embarrassing in the cinema as that was one of the saddest parts for me! As well as Lupin being killed! But I did cry LOTS when he's in the forest with the ghosts of his loved ones! So it is a very good film but obviously the books are a lot better so I'd recommend anyone to read those then watch the films! It was very sad that the Harry Potter era is over but I'm sure I'll read the books again and again! And it is very cute when you watch the last one and then either watch the first or see pictures of the actors when they first started! They've changed so much!
I haven't watched much else really as I have my old job back for the summer which is cool so there's been less time to watch stuff! My mum ordered me the first book in the Of Fire and Ice series - the books Game Of Thrones is based on! But she hasn't posted it to me yet but I should get it on Monday so that'll be something else to write about!! And I have Scarface from LoveFilm so will hopefully be watching that this afternoon which will be cool to write about as everyone is always to shocked that I haven't seen it so I hope I like it!

Toy Story 3 and The Disappearance Of Alice Creed

On Sunday night I finally caught up with the rest of the world and watched Toy Story 3 with my sister! She'd seen it lots of times already and as she is only five she kept trying to tell me what was about to happen! For example *SPOILERS* - when you're first introduced to the toys in Sunnyside Estie said "Pops...those toys are all really bad" which was annoying as that is supposed to be a surprise as they all seem nice at first! She also said stuff like "Don't worry Pops, they don't fall in the fire" or "Woody doesn't go to college with Andy!" so I had to try and ignore that but obviously it's a bit annoying!! So from now on I will try not to watch a film with my sister that she has already seen! I did really enjoy the film and thought that they made it seem quite epic especially when they're in the dump! I was also prepared to really cry as most of my friends - male and female - said that it was so very very sad and that they cried, usually I cry at anything but I only welled up a little bit surprisingly but it was sad but a happy ending as well! I have also heard on twitter that there may be a number 4 which would be cool as I like the character that Andy gave the toys to! So I did really enjoy the film and do recommend it as long as you've seen the other 2!

Last night I watched the British film The Disappearance of Alice Creed - here is the imdb page because I don't want to give anything away because it's such an amazing film with a really good story and only 3 characters shown on screen throughout the whole time and they still keep interest and it's amazing! - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1379177/  so all I can say is WATCH IT!

I watched the film Piranha the other day which I was expecting to  be absolute crap but it was entertaining! Some parts were a bit jumpy but the CGI i so awful that it isn't scary - gorey yes but not scary! It was a very far fetched story but they kind of gave a kind of good enough reason for it all! There is also lots of half naked and naked girls but the characters are a bit annoying...if you want to have a bit of a laugh then I'd watch it and Doc from Back To The Future is in it which is cool and I will be watching the 2nd one just to see what it's like!

I should be going to see Harry Potter next Weds but I'm not so bothered to see it quickly as I've obviously read the book so will not be surprised by anything and I will also only read on twitter and facebook whether it's good or not which I like to make my own mind up anyway!

Bridesmaids, Cyrus..

Hmm, it's been a very long time since I last blogged - not good as I don't even have any valid reason for not doing it!! I am in Cornwall at the moment for a little holiday staying with my mum! I was hoping for lots of sunshine to be able to go to the beach but it's been torrential rain most of the time! It's nice being here chilling with my mum and sister even though we haven't done much as my sister is at school!

Last Wednesday I went to the cinema to see Bridesmaids. I am being a bridesmaid this October so it was fun to go with the Bride and the other Bridesmaid! We thought we could get some tips?! Well we all enjoyed it but it wasn't as funny as we all anticipated! In fact some bits were really sad! We also didn't get many tips as you don't actually see much of the wedding stuff! Apart from I would love to receive a puppy as a wedding favour! =D The story itself was interesting as a lot of women will be able to relate to a lot of the characters as each have their own little problems and their own quirks. The funniest parts are the scenes that are shown in the trailer..! I think the funniest part is when Kristen Wiig calls a 14ish year old girl the C word! It was hilarious and everyone in the cinema went "Ooooooh!" before laughing because we all couldn't believe she'd said it! So it was a very good film just not as funny as the trailer makes it out to be as I expected to be laughing the whole way through and I certainly wouldn't compare it to The Hangover like most people have done..!

Last night I watched the film Cyrus with Jonah Hill and John C. Reilly. Again it wasn't as funny as I expected but I did really enjoy it. The story is a bit similar to Stepbrothers as John C. gets with Jonah Hill's mum and Jonah doesn't like it so he tries to keep them apart. I was hoping for more funny bits and more laughing but that was maybe because I did make the connection with Stepbrothers...so maybe don't do that?! The relationship between Cyrus (Hill) and his mum is quite creepy and strange but funny...they are very very close - so close that when she is in the shower she doesn't mind him going in there..? But it was good and I did Laugh out Loud a couple of times, so watch it but don't have too high expectations!

I am hoping to go and see Harry Potter 7 part 2 at the cinema with my mum and sister but as my sister is 5, we are worried she'll be very scared! In England it's been classified as 12A which means that anyone under 12 has to be accompanied by an adult so she is allowed to go and see it but I'd hate for us to go and then have to leave if she doesn't like it!?!!!! She loves all of the others but she does always ask what's going on so the other viewers might not like that! She was also devastated by Dobby's death in Part 1! But we'll have to talk to her and see!

Robin Hood, 17 Again, Machete...

Firstly- I know I said I'd never watch Russel Crowe's Robin Hood but we all sat down and watched it the other night. Before watching it I cleared my head and told myself not to judge the film based on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves as I knew that it wasn't a remake and I knew that there was no way that I'd enjoy the film as much as Robin Hood POT simply because it's one of my favourite films... So I was trying to be good and enjoy it as a separate thing to Prince of Thieves and I'm glad I did that because I really enjoyed the film! Along with a lot of other people I found Crowe's accent...amusing as it's in no way Northern and in some ways a little Irish!! I did like the cast although I'm not a fan of Cate Blanchett but Little John and the Friar were great! I thought that the story itself was really good and it was completely different to Prince of Thieves so if you do watch do what I did and forget about Prince of Thieves! So basically I was glad I watched it as I loved the story and the fights - they were very good!
Crowe's take on Costner's classic pose!

We watched Machete the other night and I really really enjoyed it! Lots of guns, explosions and gruesome killings! It was very entertaining! And I think my boyfriend enjoyed the sexy ladies that are in the film! The story gets a bit lost as there is a lot going on but it is a good film and if you like revenge and action Watch It! The cast is pretty cool as well apart from Lindsay Lohan...but her character does seem to reflect her real-life person! Jessica Alba is really cool int he film and I normally don't like Michelle Rodriguez but she was cool as well! So if you like explosions, hot girls, brutal killings and some cool Mexican slang then watch Machete!!!

Now for something a bit different - I was bored the other day so I looked on Sky Movies and 17 Again was on..Now I do like a bit of Zac Efron so I thought I'd give it a go as there was nothing else on! Surprisingly I really liked it and thought that Zac Efron was really good...quick run down of the story for you - Matthew Perry is going through a divorce with his childhood sweetheart, he has 2 kids in high school, he gets changed into being 17...instead of going back to the 80s he stays in the present which is cool as he goes to high school with his kids and helps them to help himself. It was really good as you never forgot that Zac Efron was actually a forty year old man which is obviously the main part of the story! It was funny and entertaining so it's worth a watch! The only problem I had with it is the ending as I'd like to know what his kids did as they were a big part of the story so you'd like to know what they did and if they succeeded (When you watch it you'll know what I mean). So yeah worth a watch!

Killers...

It's been ages since I last blogged! Not really sure why as I haven't been doing much - I've been getting back into exercising as I still want to lose loads more weight! I've been doing jigsaw puzzles and still watching Nat Geo Wild!
I haven't been watching that many films but I did watch Killers the other day - I put it on because I was bored and it was on Sky Anytime. I was doing a puzzle at the same time but I did really enjoy it. And that's not just because Ashton Kutcher is extremely hot in it!! I thought the characters were really good and easy to relate to and the story itself was cool! It was very Mr and Mrs Smith but Catherine Heigl's character added a different dimension and she made it hilarious! It's definitely worth watching for an "easy watching" film!

Tonight is the last episode of Game of Thrones which I am very excited about as the cliffhanger ending of last week's was intense! I think I've said in another blog how the endings make you want to watch the next one but this one was horrible as I wanted the next one right away but have had to wait for a week! I assume there will be another series - I hope so anyways as I've really enjoyed it! Richard Madden who plays Robb Stark has a new series out in England called Sirens which starts soon - it's a comedy and from the previews, it looks funny so I'll be giving that a go then I'll let you know how it is! Here is the trailers - http://www.channel4.com/programmes/sirens/articles/sirens-tv-trailers

My LoveFilm for this week is Machete which I'm really looking forward to watching as I remember the trailer they made for the Grindhouse production so I was really happy when they actually made it a feature length film! We probably won't watch it tonight because of Game Of Thrones but I will let you know how it is!
Now I need to get back to The Dog Whisperer then I need to work out! =D
